Kym Neaylon

Centre for Pavement Engineering Education

Kym is a chartered civil engineer with over 30 years specialist experience in bituminous road surfacings. He has enjoyed a successful background transitioning through an Australian State Road Agency, the Australian Road Research Board, an international professional services consultancy, to a position that enabled him to give back to the industry at the Centre for Pavement Engineering Education. His PhD thesis was the first in Australia on the topic of sprayed sealing, researching the implications of road trains for sprayed seal design. He is the past Chairman of the Australian Standards committee for ‘bitumen and related materials for road making purposes’, a position he held for the last 11 years. After a role at the Centre for Pavement Engineering Education as Executive Manager where he managed and developed the short courses program, he is now the Principal Engineering Advisor for CPEE, in addition to teaching students in the Masters of Pavement Technology online learning program.
Kym also operates as Neaylon Road Consulting, to undertake challenging commissions in the field of bituminous road surfacings, such as expert peer review of seal designs, forensic and failure investigations, and expert opinion in bitumen related matters and in bituminous surfacings prior to mediation. He has investigated problem pavement materials, skid resistance issues, and specialises in the writing and updating of engineering reports, manuals and technical notes.
